Chef’s Handyman recipe blog: The most popular cookie recipe – sand tarts!

Chef's Handyman, Food Blog, Recipe Blog, Rezept BlogWhen I grew up, sand tarts were my favorite cookies. All family members and friends love the home made sand tarts from mum. My mum received the baking recipe from her mum, my grandma. The fragrance of vanilla everywhere, that was and still is the start of the pre-Christmas season. Each year, my mum is baking the sand tarts for our family. This tradition did survive until today. Vanilla lovers should try this great baking recipe as well. I create every year new baking recipes, but this classical one is still one of the best cookie recipe I have.

 

Chef’s Handyman cookie recipe for vanilla sand tarts, 4 persons:

Makes about 50-60 pieces:
Chef's Handyman, Food Blog, Recipe Blog, Rezept-BlogTo make dough, combine butter (room temperature), flour, sugar, ground hazelnuts, 1 tbs. of vanilla sugar, orange rind, and milk. Knead dough. Form dough to a roll. Cut roll into pieces and form sand tarts.

Cover baking sheet with parchment paper. Place vanilla sand tarts on baking sheet. Bake sand tarts in oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes or until barely browned. Mix powdered sugar and 1 tbsp. of vanilla sugar. Sprinkle sand tarts with powdered sugar mixture. Store cooled sand tarts in cookie containers.

 

Chef’s Handyman tip: Substitute ground hazelnuts with ground almonds.

Shopping list for 4 persons:

Dairy Products: 5 Oz. butter, 1 tbsp. milk
Baking Ingredients: 2 Oz. sugar, 2 tbsp. vanilla sugar, 1 tbsp. orange rind (fresh, organic), 3 tbsp. powdered sugar
Flour: 6.5 Oz. bleached flour
Nuts: 3 Oz. hazelnut ground
