Traditional anise cookies for any occasion! A great cooking recipe to share in the Chef’s Handyman recipe blog!

Chef's Handyman recipe blogWhy not for Easter as well? For this traditional cookie many different cookie molds are available. There are molds with carving of animals, flowers or about tourist features, places and subjects of interests. The molds are hand-crafted. Some people do use the cookies as decoration for Christmas or Easter.

Doris a friend showed us how to produce these special cookies. We never thought that so easily they can be made. Within no time, we had produced two baking sheets full of anise cookies. I never ever had so delicious anise cookies before. The outside is crispy and the middle is still soft.

Chef’s Handyman tip for the recipe blog: Doris’ Anise Cookies!

Chef's Handyman recipe blogMakes about 30-40 pieces:
To make dough: Beat 6 eggs until creamy and light. Combine 750 g or 24 oz. of powdered sugar, 1 pinch of salt and 3 tbsp. of anise. Fold in white flour. Knead well. Spread the cookie dough 1 cm or 0.4 inches out. Dust well with flour, so that the dough does not stick on surface.

Press form carefully on dough and cut cookies out. Cover baking sheet with parchment paper and place cookies on baking sheet. Allow the cookies to dry overnight. Next day bake in oven at 140°C or 270°F for 15 minutes. Make sure the oven is not closed, leave door open for 0.4 inches. After 15 minutes, change to bottom heat for another 5-6 minutes. Take cookies out and cool on wire rack.

Shopping list for 4 persons:
Baking ingredients: 750 g, 24 Oz. powdered sugar, 1 kg, 32 Oz. white flour
Eggs: 6
Spices: 3 tbsp. anise, 1 pinch salt
