Vanilla beans and other fancy foods for the Chef’s Handyman recipe blog! In search of the best food and cooking ingredients in Zurich!
I have found fancy food for the Chef’s Handyman recipe blog. It’s just great, that still some new delicatessen can be found in Zurich. Many of my family members are keen amateur chefs. So Eugen has organized a fancy food testing for us at Donat Gut Delicatessen at Dufourstrasse 97 in 8008 Zurich. The event was interesting and we could taste so many delicious appetizers. This little shop is the best address for vanilla beans from Tahiti. One’s tried this vanilla there will be no way back anymore. Of course the price will be a bit higher, than for other beans. These beans are so huge and delicious, that the taste will be clearing the prize. In the shop there will be found two different species! The fragrance of the Raiatea bean is full of flower the other bean’s fragrance remembers a bit like Havana tobacco. In the next couple of days I will taste different cooking recipes for the Chef’s Handyman recipe blog with this queen of the spices.
I have also found a grappa with cardamom. The grappa has been produced with spices from Zanzibar. The ‘carta di musica’ are waver thin bread slices. They are so crispy and nice. They can be topped with salt and herbs for aperitif.
Donat did recommend a vanilla risotto. This will be the right cooking recipe for this extraordinary bean from Tahiti. So I have tried a risotto recipe together with the grappa. What a great taste! The risotto was so delicious. I have also combined the grappa and the vanilla bean with fruits for different jams.
