Wanderlust, Chef’s Handyman on the road, get inspired

New York is a thrilling city, with lots of interesting places to visit. I’m a real foodie with fondness in fancy restaurants and hotels. This year’s topic was the Meyer lemon, a hybrid fruit between lemon and tangerine or orange, a very refreshing fruit during the hot summer breeze.

A delicious pasta dish with the Meyer lemon has been served in the Mark restaurant. The Mark restaurant is located in the Mark hotel near the Madison Avenue. Well, the food is on the pricey side but the quality of the ingredients excuses everything.

The restaurant Edi & the Wolf does remain on the ‘Heurigen’ in Vienna. The place is very cozy and popular by younger people. The restaurant is managed by Austrians. The menu does have an Austrian touch with delicious dishes from there. The location is tiny, a reservation is recommended.

Birdland

For Jazz lovers the Birdland  in Manhattan will be the right place, a great club with exclusive Jazz bands. While listening to the music food and drinks will be served. It will be a good advice to study the program before travelling, so the tickets can be ordered in advance, otherwise the club will be booked out. There are other taverns with live music around. Next to the Central Park you will find the Tavern on the Green. What about a walk in the Central Park and then enjoying a cool drink in the tavern?

Maryland

From New York City to Chesapeak Bay its a three hour ride by car. The Potomac area is just gorgeous. The interstate road is surrounded by huge trees and cornfields. Boat harbors are spread around the riverside and they give a maritime touch. It’s like a storybook. Every place is clean, bright and colorful.

Washington D.C. a great city with a high quality of life

Washington D.C. is not the first spot to visit. What a pity! It’s a great and interesting city with a high quality of life. There are no skyscrapers forming the skyline. Especially Georgetown is a very nice district for shopping, dining or taking pictures.

Washington

Chef’s Handyman in Washington

The Park Hyatt Washington became one of our favorite hotels. In particular the Blue Duck Tavern, a restaurant which is located in the hotel, is a hot spot to visit. The dishes are delicious and very nice presented. The duck dish special, which had a week preparation before serving, is a dream. I’m crazy about vegetables and fruits, sometimes, very rarely I cannot resist still tasting a nip of fish or meat, to enjoy the extraordinary creations from innovative chefs.

The tea cellar is the cherry on top. They have curiosities of teas like the 1985 Emperor’s Masterpiece and the 1949 Vintage private Reserve Cave aged PU-Erh, which are very pricey. To stay in budget, the Royal Snowflake, the Berry Meritage or the Freak of Nature Olong are great teas as well.

The Blue Duck Tavern gives a feel like at home. The kitchen is open and the guests can watch the chefs preparing the food. No glass front or door will separate the guests from the kitchen. They motivate also to take some pictures and post them. I’m wondering how long it does take, until this great concept will be adopted in our country.

Food Trucks

Food Trucks are also very common in Washington. They stand in front of the office buildings. During lunch time it’s extremely busy around that area. People are queuing up for their preferred lunch box. Once a week, a large market is located nearby. They sell vegetables and fruits fresh from their fields, homemade sauces, oils, cakes and lunches.

Next time we will visit Washington in fall. During that season Washington will show a number of picturesque places. I’m looking forward to seeing all the trees in the colors of autumn.

Have a great weekend, yours Chef’s Handyman team.
